Don't get around much anymore

If anyone has noticed how rare blog updates have been around here, it's because I really need to scale back for a time. I've got to finish writing a manuscript. And any time I do find for blogging needs to go to my primary blog -- The Thrill of it All -- as I gear up for the publication of my whodunit this summer.

BUTLER, NJ (Feb 2010) -- 2009 was another memorable year for the comic book industry. When it came time for journalists to reflect on the year gone by, several mentioned Robot 13 as one of the standout comic books of 2009. MTV's Rick Marshall called R-13 the “Best Under-the-Radar Comic Series” on the stands today.

This March, readers get another chance to discover what all the excitement is about with the release of R-13 #3. Robot 13 vs Hellboy

Robert Hood at Undead Backbrain sets out in words and pictures some of the controversy surrounding perceived similarities between giant-robot-fights-giant-monsters comic Robot 13 and hellspawn-fights-folklore-and-such comic Hellboy. The post includes some fightin' words from Dark Horse editor Scott Allie and commentary from Robot 13 writer Tom Hall: "Robot 13 vs the Cyclops"

Review: Ultraman: The Complete Series

The blog Giant Monsters Attack reviews the DVD box set featuring the original Ultraman series, the giant monster showcase created for Japanese kids in the 1960s and imported to American kids in the 1970s. It's a fair review. Even as much as I loved the series as a kid -- and enjoyed reliving some of that with the DVDs -- it's difficult to argue with the reviewer's few complaints about the series. Read the whole review here: DVD Review: Ultraman (The Complete Series).
